And Back: Same streetcar line, different elderly man. Following the tail end of a Chinese New Year parade, the gentlemen turns to face myself and the other passengers inside the waiting streetcar, nonchalantly grabs his left ankle and raises it over his head making faces as tho trying to elicit a giggle from a newborn. He repeats this act of extreme flexibility while crossing the street, again treating the event like a special performance just for the passengers of the car.

Panzerotti? no. Pizza-Pocket? nope. Gargantuan homemade apple & cheese Pergogies? Hells yes! (note dollar for scale).

Commissioned illustration for the OCASI In My Language website. Themes of translation, communication and “Canadiana” were to be depicted. Unfortunately, a different direction was chosen for the site and the piece was not used in the final version.

A last minute business school mingler for Alison created the need for a simple but sophisticated contact card.

To continue the animation and quirky characteristics of the identity online, the site features a parallax effect that is triggered via mouse movement. The complexity of the background scene is contrasted by simple navigation and elegant typography as well as external loading of content.

A series of three short mock book trailers to promote The Tracey Fragments – a novel by Maureen Medved. Cut-and-paste collage style was implemented to mirror the disjointed narrative of the story.

Inspired by the recent economic situation and my own experiences with the Canadian immigration system. Proposal for a flexible alternate solution to the current static points-based accessment for immigrants coming into Canada.

Jobserver is a device-independant application that graphically shows you where in the world you and your skills are needed using a minimalist interface and the power of information design.

Loosely based on the theme “ten” this project, for me, was all about making connections between seemingly disparate elements and so I needed to create a narrative that would enhance this idea.

Therefore the quirky, and at times nonsensical, interactions between characters serve to seamlessly weave together their environment.

Stylistically the silhouettes, the text replacing dialogue, the jerky movement and the grainy “old film” texture coupled with the sound of an old street organ-grinder generates a nostalgic quality, while the bold contrasts of black, white and yellow give it a modern vitality.

This poster was designed to promote a typeface I created called “Knotty” – a modern display face inspired by Celtic art and design. The desire to create this kind of typeface came from an observation that there are many “Celtic” fonts out there, usually seen on the sign of a pub, but none that really speak to the beauty, intricacy and sophistication that is true of this aspect of Irish culture.

Two in a series of short stories about an “eejit” named Malky. These brief accounts of the misadventures of Malky offer an educational glimpse into the “colourful” tongue that is Scots slang.

Seeing all my notes and observations together after I got home that day , I realized that the little stories I had jotted down were very important to my map, they gave it a sense of vitality, community and individuality and that, for me, is what Kensington is all about.

The final result might not be a map in the traditional notion of the word, but it is a snapshot of movement, individuality and life.

This two-in-one flip book “Pell-mell” and “Lull” is part exploration into, part critique of, the increasing pace of modern life in terms of it’s effects on our physical and mental health. Its purpose is not to preach but to simply bring a level of awareness to our own personal speed.

Animation (of imagery, text and other page elements) is used to address and play with this theme of pacing and presents the flipper/reader with a couple of options as to how they can explore the book, which, in turn relates back to the theme, will the reader quickly flip though the pages, get a gist of what’s going on and leave it at that, or will they take the time to actually open it up and read the text word for word?
